So, in a previous post I mentioned rain, well that was some night! I don’t know what it is about this summer, but it’s been the wettest in North Texas that I can ever remember. Usually by August the grass has faded and died, but this year it’s as green as can be. June, July, and now in August we’ve gotten plenty of rain.
Now, that Wednesday night, into early Thursday morning was something else. My dad was out of town, and my mom was at work so it was just my sisters and I at home. It started out very innocently, with just some light thunder. Nothing to get concerned about, right? No! There was thunder and lightning all over the place, and very intense rain.
The rain got so bad, that it started to come inside from the back door that leads to the backyard. Initially I put paper towels to soak it up, but then Kelly suggested I put bath towels under the door. So, I did that, but there was more. The power briefly went out, as the breaker must have tripped. Some of the rooms still had power, but my parents room, Kelly’s room, and part of the kitchen were dead. I kept trying to remember what my dad said to do in a situation like this, but I couldn’t remember what to do except what he said about the test and reset buttons. That helped with the kitchen, but I knew I was going to have to mess with the circuit breaker in order to restore power to the other rooms.
I wanted to look on the internet for help, but it was out for awhile so I couldn’t really do much about it. Eventually the internet did return (Thankfully!) and I was able to restore power to both rooms. I felt so happy, and proud of myself! ^_^b
As I had previously mentioned, my mom was at work, and it took her forever to get home. It just wasn’t safe enough for her to be able to make it. You see, behind our house in the field beyond our fence is a little creek. Usually it’s so low, you can’t even see it unless you’re close to it. But when we get a ton of rain it can transform into a river! Everything would be okay, if it wasn’t for the fact that the creek extends all the way to the road that leads to our subdivision. When the creek get high enough it flows over the road, and is not safe to pass. So that night, my mother didn’t get home till nearly six a.m. in the morning!
It was one crazy night, I tell you. Thankfully, everyone was alright, but it’s a night I won’t soon forget. And that’s that Kelly and my mother had to go out the following day. Kelly got to sleep earlier, but for my mom it was rough. And then that Friday, the rest of my family was going on vacation. So, they were really going to be running on fumes, to say the least. That last part about the vacation ties into something nice that happened to me, but I’ll save that for another entry! ^_-
